Something About Mari

Mari Adkins is a dark fiction writer from a tiny coal mining community in southeastern Kentucky.

Her poetry and other writing has appeared in the e-zines associated with the 3Sides Literary Agency, the Stories from the Red Light District anthology, and in various projects associated with Apex Publications. Midnight, Heir, and Elders are the first novels in Mari's "Harlan Vampires Series"; the fourth book, Daybreak is complete and is currently out to readers.

She is a member of the Toasted Cheese online writing community and is a contributing editor for Apex Science Fiction & Horror Digest.

Mari has lived away from the mountains and lived deep in the mountains. She currently lives in Central Kentucky with her lifepartner and their cat. She is the mother of two teenaged boys and is an avid supporter of kidney disease awareness. The mountains, their culture, their superstitions, their particular magics, will always be in her blood.

I think I need to do an intro thread. My humor is too silly for me to just jump right in. Haha. People won't take me serious.

    I haven't forgotten you!

I'll make sure to say "hello" to you at the upcoming con, but you won't know who (or what) I am!

    Heh heh.

Sex scenes I think are way too overdone in horror. I will be quicker to publish a horror story with a well timed fight scene, I think it is harder to write a fight scene in a horror story. But if well timed you'd have something that will last longer than the cheap tricks.

    Hey, Mari--
    I'll check out the excerpts!
Yes, it's a small world, but I wouldn't want to walk around it!
I spent my summers growing up in area of Cumberland, Ky--my mom was from Lynch (an ugly name, now that I think of it).

    Mari--
    Vince Singleton--aka grokLF--here.
We have some of the same friends, or I at least read some of your author friend's fiction.
I have met James Newman, have a pic with him. My youngest daughter used to live in Hendersonville, NC. I also pester Nanci Kalanta, some others.
Gary Braunbeck is my favorite horror writer, bar none, and a great e-friend. I am also in regular contact with Patricia Anthony (author of Flanders) and James Morrow ("The Godhead Trilogy," Only Begotten Daughter, etc).
My other favorite horror writers are Tim Lebbon and Caitlin R. Kiernan. And a lot of others, of course. But mainly those three.
I am currently reading King's Duma Key. Very, very good.
I have a nephew, Keith, a guitar virtuoso, who lives in Lexington.

    What's hap'nin?

P.S. I am, I regret, unfamiliar with your work.
